COLORADO HOMESCHOOL

Three Homeschooling Options in Colorado:

  • You can choose the option that suits your family’s needs best.
  • Option 1: Colorado Homeschool Statute
  • Choose an Educator:
    • Must be a parent, guardian, or adult relative.
    • Notify a School District:
      • Provide a 14-day notice before starting and annually.
      • Include child’s details like name, age, and attendance hours.
  • Teach Required Subjects:
    • 172 days of instruction, 4 hours/day in subjects like math, history, and science.
  • Keep Records:
    • Maintain attendance, test results, and immunization records.
    • Districts can request access to these under certain conditions.
  • Test or Evaluate:
    • Students assessed in grades 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11.
    • Choose between standardized tests or evaluations by qualified individuals.
    • Submit results to the school district or independent/parochial school.
  • Option 2: Independent School Homeschooling
    • Enroll in an established independent school for homeschooling supervision.
    • Families can also create their own school while meeting statutory requirements.
  • Option 3: Certified Teacher Homeschooling
    • If the educator holds a valid Colorado teaching certificate, there are no extra requirements.
