
Three Homeschooling Options in Colorado:
- You can choose the option that suits your family’s needs best.
- Option 1: Colorado Homeschool Statute
- Choose an Educator:
- Must be a parent, guardian, or adult relative.
- Notify a School District:
- Provide a 14-day notice before starting and annually.
- Include child’s details like name, age, and attendance hours.
- Teach Required Subjects:
- 172 days of instruction, 4 hours/day in subjects like math, history, and science.
- Keep Records:
- Maintain attendance, test results, and immunization records.
- Districts can request access to these under certain conditions.
- Test or Evaluate:
- Students assessed in grades 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11.
- Choose between standardized tests or evaluations by qualified individuals.
- Submit results to the school district or independent/parochial school.
- Option 2: Independent School Homeschooling
- Enroll in an established independent school for homeschooling supervision.
- Families can also create their own school while meeting statutory requirements.
- Option 3: Certified Teacher Homeschooling
- If the educator holds a valid Colorado teaching certificate, there are no extra requirements.
